He is former senior vice president and chief economist of the World Bank and is a former member and chairman of the (US president’s) Council of Economic Advisers. In 2001, Stiglitz won the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences and in 2019 his most recent book, People, Power, and Profits; Progressive Capitalism for an Age of Discontent was published. Herman van Rompuy is a Belgian politician, who served as Prime Minister of Belgium from 2008 to 2009 and then as the first permanent President of the European Council from 2009 to 2014. He was appointed chairman of the board of the College of Europe in 2019. --About De Nieuwe Wereld De Nieuwe Wereld is a collaborative online platform that brings together experts from different fields and disciplines in order to reflect on major societal changes brought about by globalization and rapid technological developments. It is an initiative of Dutch journalist Paul van Liempt, philosopher Ad Verbrugge and David van Overbeek. De Nieuwe Wereld is a collaboration of VU University, Centrum Ethos and Filosofische School Nederland.
